The play one of the most successful masterpieces of Tiyatro Oyunevi is a product of a collective work. Five plays selected among the plays written as an answer to the invitation of Amnesty International under the title "Theatre against Oblivion" have been edited with perfect aesthetic integrity by Mahir Gunsiray. It's excellent with its direction and acting. Simply: the theatre event of the year.
This is my advice to the cats who forgot or trying to forget the agonies: do not miss "Oblivion". You'll have fun. But, be careful! You may resemble yourself to some of the persons and get blushed.
To the ones who do nothing against the tragedy in Palestine; go and see "Oblivion". Maybe you may see yourselves at the stage and be ashamed. And maybe attempt to do something

Tiyatro Oyunevi -although not as radical as that- is also an interesting troupe with a high level of aesthetics and politics. The troupe has its own studio-type stage where they perform French masterpieces in general. (Genet's "The Maids", Koltes's "The Night Just Before the Forest" and "Oblivion" of several authors) The director Mahir Gunsiray has framed five one-act plays by Cormann, Durif, Jouanneau and Schmitt, with "Clowns With No Borders" (from Divertimento) of Joel Jouanneau and created an integrity. The variety couple, are on their way between several stages with their gags, searching the way to "Goma". The most convincing play is "We're Just Two In This Enormous World" by Enzo Cormann. It's performed in a simple and impressive manner, apart from all the cliches. It presents the world as a nightmare place that is strictly observed. It's touching, since the thing performed is just from the 'normal' daily life.

I HAVEN'T FORGETTEN, BUT I'LL REMEMBER

(...) Tiyatro Oyunevi has always presented extraordinary works to its audience and has been the shelter of the theatre lovers who are fond of the 'new'. "Oblivion" is the same kind of a work of art with its quality. (...)
These five texts, which are pointing out the mixing of the good and the evil in horrible speed of today's world and our consolation in oblivion, is being performed with a perfect edition. Whenever I watch the productions of Tiyatro Oyunevi, I've always thought that there is a real 'ensemble' on the stage. This ensemble can very clearly be seen also in "Oblivion" ...

At the last part, the devil appears as the spokesman of a company specialized in the production of equipments of persuasion techniques, after a metamorphosis. Evil has become more presentable from now on. Furthermore its tecniques are changed. Giving physical pain, such as sheding blood, truncheons, torture with electricity are all primitive. The old vulgar methods are put aside and the humanity is invited to a super technological new hell by the devil.

Tiyatro Oyunevi, while strengthening its political discourse with "Oblivion", is also presenting a stimulating work with high level of entertainment and interactive dimensions. They're once again emphasizing that the staging and director are the creators of performing the art.

WITHIN AN AESTHETIC UNITY FIVE WATERLIKE FLUENT PLAYS:"Oblivion"

Ustun Akmen, Tiyatro Dergisi, June 2002

Mahir Gunsiray has started out by demanding the united reaction of the audience. On the contrary, he has been well aware of the fact that the united reaction can not be easily obtained from intellectual minds. He has done very well by not choosing agitation arising from thinking but thinking arising from agitation. He has kept alive the reaction of excitement througout. He has known what he wanted, has trusted that he can obtain that with what he has chosen...
Don't ever forget viewing "Oblivion". This is for me to say: Don't forget it, don't miss it, don't bemoan about it if you miss it.
